If you have a Tektronix/Xerox Phaser printer, you can add oil to your old maintenance roller (please see link at bottom). Then, with our counter refurbishing kit you can reset the counter to 30,000 copies (10K for 8500 standard kit 108R00675), then just replace the maintenance roller later and/or replace the oil as necessary. It is important to know that the when you purchase our counter reset that you are responsible for replacing the oil in the roller, the roller was not meant to be run dry hence why it normally needs to be replaced if oil is not added back manually. In addition this kit can be used to convert other Xerox maintenance kit such as the C2424 and 8500 to a 8400 unit or inversely, so that price shopping will not be just limited to your conventional brand printer maintenance roller.
With this 3 step kit you can now reset your maintenance counter for the newer Xerox phaser printers without replacing the entire roller. The kit can only be used once (single shot) upon which a LED will light indicating a successful reset counter event of your maintenance tray as well as a de-activated reset kit. Along with the suggestions we provide on how to add oil back to your old roller (appendix bottom) you will be able to save thousands on future roller purchases by extending and recycling your maintenance kit by yourself.
Please note that this kit is obsolete and has been replaced by the following kit both in U.S. and abroad (please click here the replacement reset kit). We also have reset counters for the older 840, 850, 860, and 8200 printers (click link).
Step 1. Plug in the power supply to the AC line. And remove the maintenance kit from the phaser tray.
Step 2. Make contact with connectors as shown in the picture below. The top conductive flap must make contact to the metal clip at the top, while the two pins should be pressed firmly through the conductive foam until making contact to the metal contact below the foam:
Step 3. Slide the programming switch on the kit board to on until LED is lit. LED lit condition shows that your newer brand phaser printers has been reset to zero count.
Step 4.

Questions & Answers FAQ
-------------
Q. What would happen if I lost contact between the resetting kit and the maintenance counter, while it was resetting the counter would I lose my 1-time shot reset?
A. This is impossible because the single shot fuse is only activated after the kit determines that the counter has been totally reset. Therefore if it was interrupted during its communication with the maintenance kit counter and it verifies the counter was not reset totally, the unit would then try again to reset and validate ad infinite perpetuity until successful. Only after a successful validation would the one time fuse be set for "already been used" condition and the kit would be disengaged for further printer tray resetting.
-------------
Q. How long does it take to reset with the kit after the switch is turned on?
A. Faster than the human reaction to turn off the switch, so its virtually instant as long as a electrical connection is established through the foam and to the upper contacts. If this does not occur than no programming will be performed and the single shot will remain activated for future reset.
-------------
Q. How can I tell if a reset kit has been used or vice versa when it still is unactivated (1-time-shot reset still left) ?
A. If the power is plugged in and the reset kit is not hooked up to any printer maintenance kit and you slide the switch to on position, if the LED remains off (unlit) then your reset kit is still active and can be used to reset a maintenance tray. Alternatively, while the reset kit is powered and is still in stand alone (unconnected to a maintenance tray) if you slide the reset switch on and the LED lights up this indicates the unit has already been used and will not reset any further maintenance trays. Therefore the LED lit condition indicates both a used/unused condition and since the kit always comes with the LED unlit (unused) you can tell if you have successfully reset your maintenance tray while establishing contact to the tray electrical and sliding the switch ( a LED on) indicates you were successful at the resetting your old maintenance tray counter.
------------
Q. What happens if the reset switch is left on during transit and do I have to turn it back off after utilization?
A. This can't happen as the reset switch is a spring loaded momentary switch, once you let go of the switch slider it will deflect to initial off condition.
